There are many reasons to turn to counselling. Sometimes there might be a general sense of life being stuck, or there might be specific issues that are troubling.
Counselling can help us reframe our issues, stripping them of their power over our lives. It can also offer us the tools to help deal with them.
Problems kept to ourselves often swirl around in our heads inhibiting our ability to get to grips with them, leading to a sense of confusion, distress and powerlessness that causes anxiety to spiral.
In voicing these problems to family or friends, we might fear being misunderstood or over burdening them. However, speaking to a trained professional offers the freedom to speak openly, supported by the understanding, non-judgemental confidentiality and professional listening skills of a psychotherapist.

Acknowledging the need for help and then asking for help requires courage. I hope that I respond to any request for help with calm, warmth and empathy recognising the uniqueness of each individual and their experiences.
The quality of the relationship between client and counsellor is the major factor in effective therapy in Humanistic counselling. As a Humanistic Therapist, it is the primary focus of my work. I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), which means that, as a counsellor, both I and my working methods are approved by the BACP.
I have worked with mental health issues directly and indirectly for many years in a wide range of circumstances: in education from school to university level; with special needs groups; homeless adults; addicts; traveller families and others on the margins of society, building a wealth of experience working with both adults and children over the years with over a thousand hours in clinical therapeutic practice.
As a psychotherapist my focus over the last decade has been on adults over 18. Work and relationship issues comprise a large part of my counselling practice. I have a particular interest in male mental health.
I have a background in Fine Art which is widely understood to nurture qualities essential to effective therapy such as creative thinking; acute observation; self-awareness and the imagination to enter another’s world with empathy and understanding.
